HL Designs

Bake Art

I enjoyed watching the cooking show "Junior Master Chef". So when HL Designs got commissioned to do the lobby and cafe of this culinary school, I was thrilled! (I think we all were!) We had fun researching concepts, designs, and the client was a dream to work with! While she brought in some wonderful ideas, she was also very open to new ones.

Today, we set up the place and I can't wait for them to open!!!

The lobby is like a cornucopia of candy, chocolates and colours! The custom-made pendant lights are inspired from Hershey's kisses and meringue.

The reception area can also be an extension of the cafe. Kiddie chairs and tables are provided for our young aspiring chefs and patrons.

Over a year later, as we work on another project in SM City, Cebu, I chanced upon this project we completed last year.

Reception Area

They say the devil is in the details. An embedded cork board covered in damask fabric is a fancy way to display all the required government certificates and makes it easy to replace each year.

The focal point of the reception area is this accent wall painted in a bright yellow hue with nude photos in black & white, framed within a mirror. Ghost chair replicas serve as guest chairs.

The foot spa area

A wood strip divider separates the foot spa area from the hallway to the treatment rooms.

Location: Kauswagan Highway, Cagayan De Oro City
Project Completion: March 2011

This was my first out-of-town project since establishing HL Designs in Cebu. I will forever be grateful for this opportunity. Working with pioneer modern architects Arsing Abella and Ed Daang was a truly enriching experience. The owners were wonderful and very down-to-earth, too! I enjoyed exchanging travel and bag stories with the N sisters, as well as doing Tagalog-show reviews. Today, every time I see N Hotel acknowledged by ABS-CBN reality shows, I can't help but smile and feel proud because I was once a part of it.
